Leonard J. Vecchiolla was born March 5, 1924, son of John and Angelina Girardi Vecchiolla. In Rye his family lived at 112 Maple Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
He attended Rye schools and was a Rye High School Graduate, class of 1942. In high school he was amember of the Fingerprinting, Drivers and Radio Clubs, played on the Golf Team and was a Junior Coach. Leonard enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Leonard served as a sergeant in the United States Army in the European Theater and was awarded the bronze star.

The Bronze Star Medal has been awarded to S Sergt. Leonard J. Vecchiolla, HQ 84th Infantry Division for campaigns in Holland, Belgium and Germany. He has been in service for twenty-eight months and is still serving overseas. S Sgt. Vecehiolla is the son Mr. and Mrs. John F. Vecchiolla of 11 2 Maple Avenue. After the war Leonard graduated Iona College, New Rochelle and New York University Law School in 1950.
He was a partner in the White Plains law firm of Smith Ranscht, Pollack & Barnes, he was appointed City Judge in 1967. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi fraternity; the White Plains Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association, the New York Bar Association and the New York State Magistrate's Association.
He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection; the Holy Name Society of the Church and the Resurrection Dad's Club.
Active in the Rye Republican Party, he was a leader in district 2, secretary and a member of the executive committee for 10 years. He was Rye campaign chairman: 1 for State Senator Anthony Gioffre in 1967; a delegate to V i State Republican Convention; 1 member of the Zoning Board Appeals for four years; active the Rye Red Cross, United Fin 1 and Mental Health fund drives; an i a government appeal officer for the Selective Service agency, Board 1 White Plains.
Judge Vecchiolla Dies Following Long Illness
Rye City Judge Leonard Vecchiolla, 46, died Saturday afternoon November 21, 1970 at his home, 71 Orchard Ave., after a lengthy illness.
Flags on all Rye; public buildings were flown at half-mast in honor of Judge Vecchiolla’ s memory. A solemn requiem mass was held at the Church of the Resurrection. Entombment was in Greenwood Union Cemetery.
In addition to his mother and father, he was survived by a sister Miss Jean Vecchiolla of the home address.
